Endocrinology

An Endocrinologist is a specially trained physician.  After four years of medical school and three years of an Internal Medicine residency, these doctors receive several years of additional training in an Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes fellowship.

The Endocrinologist is an expert in the diseases of the hormone system.  The endocrine system is a complex system that affects every aspect of the human body.  The physician will help diagnose a disorder, find a cause, and explain treatment options to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body.

The disorders most commonly encountered by an Endocrinologist include:

  • Diabetes- all types including Type 1, Type 2 (Adult onset), Gestational
  • Thyroid- Hyperthyroid, Hypothyroid, Nodules, Cancer
  • Pituitary- Adenomas, Tumors, Cushing’s disease, Prolactin elevation, Acromegaly
  • Bone disorders- Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, Osteomalacia
  • Adrenal disorders- Adenomas, Cancers, Cushing’s Syndrome, Pheochromocytoma, Conn’s disease, Hyperaldosteronism, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)
  • Parathyroid disorders
  • Women’s Health- Menopausal Syndrome, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Men’s Health- Male Hypogonadism or low testosterone
  • Cholesterol disorders
  • Obesity
